BWDVGC IS TURNING 50
We are pleased to report that our Brisbane Water District Veteran Golfers Club
(one of the first formed in regional NSW),
continues to provide competition golf weekly on a Monday.
Brisbane Water District is the Central Coast of NSW in the LGA’s surrounding
Gosford and Wyong.
Some golf courses have come and gone from the network of courses utilized.
Mutual dedication between the local
Clubs and the BWDVGC committee has ensured that members get a game of golf on a different course for 46 weeks of the year .
The Club has been rewarded throughout by committee members devoted to its cause.
None more so than the following: Bill Poole who began in 1992 as the delegate of Morisset Club 1992-1995, elected Club Captain 1995-2010 then President 2011-2016; Lionel Matters as V. President 1992 & ’93 then President 1994-2002 and R E (Earl) Stokes delegate of Everglades Club 1992-2004, elected V. President 2000-’02 then President 2003-’10. It is no wonder that there are perpetual trophies named in honour of these three hard-working men.
Two members have won the Club Championship five times – Robert (Barry) Ewert, winning 2002-2004 and again 2013 & 2014, equalling the streak by J Oldman 2006-2010.
Inside Golf Story
Minutes of the Inaugural Meeting
Forty-six veterans hit off at Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club on December 7th for what was to be, it was hoped, the first of many golf outings for the Veterans in the Brisbane Water District.
Following the game a meeting was held, chaired by the President of Brisbane Water Golf Association.
Charles Green of Tuggerah and Ted Horsnail of Gosford were nominated for the Presidency but as Ted Horsnail had volunteered to act as Secretary-Treasurer, stood down in favour of Charles Green.
Fred Johnstone – Everglades and Jack Williams – Wyong were elected to the committee and as no members were present from Toukley, Terrigal or Morisset, the fore going gentlemen were to form a nucleus of a committee for the Veteran’s Golfers
Association of Brisbane Waters.
The Brisbane Water Golfers Association donated $25.00 towards the newly formed association with the promise of a $5.00 trophy.
Mr. Green presented trophies to the winners of the day’s event and the atmosphere was most congenial and an anticipation of many happy outings.
On the motion of Stan Parsons, Seconded, Ken Knox it was agreed that the membership be $2.00 per annum.
As the Secretary- Treasurer would be holidaying in Victoria over Xmas it was agreed that the first committee meeting be held in January, 1974 and the next golf outing in February, and then at monthly intervals to be decided by the committee.Stan Parsons of Tuggerah kindly offered his services in any capacity to help the
association to function.
Congratulations to Our Club, job done well
